New York's Unresolved Nursing Home Crisis: An Open Letter to Governor Hochul

Dear Governor Hochul,

I trust this letter finds you in good health. I am reaching out to further our dialogue surrounding an issue of deep personal and public concern - the COVID-19 related deaths in New York State's nursing homes. Specifically; when will the deaths of our loved ones truly count?

Reflecting on our previous meetings at your office in 2021 and at the fundraising event hosted by David Kramer and I in 2022, I recall your empathy and commitment to truth and transparency. As I wrote in my first Daily News op-ed, your promise that "the truth shall come out," has been a beacon of hope in this challenging journey for accountability.

It seems paradoxical that numerous reports have been published by government and independent agencies on this matter, yet the public remains in the dark about the exact number of nursing home fatalities. Similarly, it raises questions about the effectiveness of an investigation by the Olson Group, which lacks the subpoena power necessary for a comprehensive inquiry into the nursing home scandal.

Regrettably, over three years have passed since this tragedy, and the clarity we seek remains elusive. As I shared in my latest Daily News op-ed, the question remains: when will our voices be heard, and when will we receive the closure we so desperately need?

My intent, Governor, is not to accuse or confront, but to seek the truth - a truth that will allow us and our loved ones to rest in peace. My concerns transcend party lines or political agenda. I am requesting a meeting with you so we can discuss this in person and hopefully, our continued dialogue will expedite the process of truth-finding, providing much-needed closure for all affected families.

I look forward to your response and request that we arrange this meeting soon to delve deeper into this matter.
