Howard Zucker to testify on New York’s disastrous COVID response in front of House committee
By the New York Post
Howard Zucker, former New York State Health Commissioner, is set to testify before Congress regarding New York’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Scheduled for a closed-door session with the House’s Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Zucker will address inquiries about the controversial March 2020 order mandating that nursing homes accept coronavirus-positive residents from hospitals, without testing them for the virus. This policy, particularly fatal for the elderly, is believed to have led to a significant number of additional nursing home deaths.
Staten Island GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a member of the committee, intends to probe Zucker about the rationale behind the policy, especially when alternative facilities were available. Questions about financial incentives in placing patients in nursing homes versus hospitals are also expected.
Despite the controversy, Zucker faced minimal consequences and was later appointed deputy director for global health at the CDC. Skeptics like Janice Dean, a Fox News meteorologist and advocate for COVID victims, express doubt about Zucker’s willingness to be transparent, but hope for a truthful account to provide closure to affected families.
